The run and shoot offense (also known as Run N' Shoot) is an offensive system for American football which emphasizes receiver motion and on-the-fly adjustments of receivers' routes in response to different defenses.

Run N' Shoot Philosophy

The Run N' Shoot offense has a heavy emphasis on motion and option routes from receivers. Those motions help to determine defensive coverages and force the defense to communicate. Similar to Air Raid, it uses a lot of spread formations and four-receiver sets.

The inventor of the offense was Glenn “Tiger” Ellison, who first termed it “the lonesome polecat” because he would overload one side with an extra receiver and use his scrambling quarterback to run to the weak side.
