Our Irish Beer Bread Recipe not only tastes great, but it’s a really fun science experiment for the kids! They love watching the beer explode in the batter!

As many of you know, my sister, Daniele, and I are Gemini Irish Twins. We were born 364 days apart, in the month of June, and I have no idea how our mother managed us. We’re also complete polar opposites, so she probably never got a moment’s peace.

But, as the saying goes, “Opposites Attract”, and that is why my sister is my best friend. In addition to our blog, we’ve worked at three, yes three, different companies together. And, it gets worse…we also live a mere three, yes three, blocks away from each other. We can walk to each other’s house – and we often walk our kids to school together when the weather’s nice.

It’s really bizarre – and fantastic too – but one of the nicest parts of being polar opposites is that we get to write a very diverse blog. For example, if you want to see posts about pie crusts, cut-out cookies, and uber creative crafts, then you should check out Daniele’s posts because she’s got the patience for all of that fine-tuning.

But if you’re in a hurry and just need to slap something pretty on the table, you should read my posts. I definitely don’t have the patience that my sister does, but that’s what makes this blog so much fun. You get a little bit of everything here.

With that said, Daniele is the fancy bread baker that uses yeast and patiently waits for it to rise in a perfectly warm environment. She’s the one that puts crisscrosses on it and places it on pretty towels for you to ogle. But, me – I’m WAY too impatient for that, which is why this Irish Beer Bread recipe is right up my alley.

For an impatient Momma like myself, this Irish beer bread recipe accomplished many objectives in one. I baked an insanely tasty quick bread. It took like two seconds to put together. It was so easy that the kids were able to help me. And, the super cool bubbling action that took place when we added the beer to the dry ingredients counted as a science experiment.

I wish I could claim all of the bragging rights for this Irish beer bread recipe, but I can’t because I snagged this recipe from Len on Allrecipes.com who got this recipe from his “own lazy Irish grandmother”. If you’re looking for something incredible to make, this bread is awesome and I’m not embarrassed to admit that I ate a huge slab of it right out of the oven.

Just so you know, I altered the recipe a pinch to crunch up the crust and added some Jane’s Krazy Mixed-Up Salt, to which I am highly addicted to!

Irish Beer Bread Recipe Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 12 ounces room temperature beer (The better the beer, the better the bread. I like using a lighter beer in this recipe, like Harp over Guinness.)
  • 2 tablespoon salted butter, melted
  • Jane’s Krazy Mixed-Up Salt

Irish Beer Bread RecipeDirections:

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 375º F degrees.

Step 2: Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.

Step 3: Slowly add beer. Mix together until just incorporated.

Step 4: Place into prepared loaf pan and bake for 35 minutes.

Step 5: Melt 2 tablespoons of salted butter in the microwave. Using a pastry brush, carefully brush the melted butter all over the exposed parts of the bread. Generously sprinkle Jane’s Krazy Mixed-Up Salt on top and bake for 10 more minutes.

Step 6: Let cool in pan for 10 minutes. Then remove bread from loaf pan and place on a wire rack to cool completely.

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day everybody!

Denine

*P.S. We also have a younger brother who is simply wonderful. Our children adore him to pieces, as do we. However, he thinks our codependency issues are a little outrageous, so he lives a whole 5 minutes away from us, instead of right around the corner! We love you Den! 🙂

I am a little confused about the butter, please help. In the recipe it called for 1 T. of butter with no instructions as to if it should be mixed in with the batter. Then later it says melt 2 T. of butter and pour on top after the fist baking. Please give me the correct use of the butter.

    Thanks,

The 2 tablespoons of butter should be brushed on the bread after it is baked. So sorry for the confusion!
